Sara and Freedom

A few months back we caught up with Sara Santo, an occupational therapist-of-all-trades who became involved with some furry therapists in their own right through a program called Paws with Purpose (PwP).  PwP is a service dog organization that trains dogs to service people with disabilities across the country.  Sara didn’t really go sniffing around for a new adventure in training service dogs, but instead the opportunity found her and after many- and we mean many- training hours on her part, Sara became eligible to assist her canine counterparts to assist humans with an array of mobility challenges.  Sara describes some of the fascinating ways animals can provide us humans support, as well as how PwP provides productive skills to women at the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women who train the dogs during the week before passing them to part time trainers such as Sara on the weekends for community training.  Her canine partner, the gorgeous Freedom is also featured on this podcast.  Sit.  Stay.  Listen!
